San Antonio Rampage News Release
CEDAR PARK, Texas - The San Antonio Rampage received a power-play goal from right wing Michal Repik with seven seconds remaining in the game to down the Texas Stars, 4-3, on Saturday night at Cedar Park Center.
The Rampage scored the game's first goal 13:43 into the opening period when center Jon Matsumoto deflected an Evan Barlow shot past Texas backstop Andrew Raycroft to hand San Antonio a 1-0 advantage. Defenseman Colby Robak picked up the secondary assist on Matsumoto's 19th marker of the season.
A quick passing play from right wing Bill Thomas to forward Bracken Kearns to center Mark Cullen resulted in a 2-0 San Antonio lead nearly two minutes later. Cullen beat Raycroft blocker side to notch his ninth goal of the campaign and extend his point streak to nine games.
Tyler Beskorowany replaced Raycroft in net when the second period began. Texas made the count 2-1 on a goal from center Angelo Esposito at the 15:05 mark of the second. In a goalmouth scramble, Esposito found the puck and lifted it past Grumet-Morris for his sixth score of 2011-12. The assists on the play went to left wing Luke Gazdic and defenseman Drew Schiestel.
Thomas responded for the Rampage with a goal of his own just over a minute later to give San Antonio a 3-1 edge. He corralled the rebound of a Sean Sullivan shot and deposited it behind Beskorowany for his 20th tally of the season. Cullen notched his second point of the night with the secondary helper on the Thomas score.
The Stars cut the San Antonio lead to 3-2 when rookie forward Matt Fraser potted a shorthanded goal 18:55 into the middle stanza. He guided a shot by Grumet-Morris from the right circle to register his 28th goal of the year. Gazdic posted his second assist of the night with the lone helper on the play.
Left wing Francis Wathier knotted the score at 3-3 for Texas at the 7:00 mark of the third frame. He backhanded a loose puck in the crease over the leg pads of Grumet-Morris to pick up his 15th goal of the campaign. Right wing Colton Sceviour and center Scott Glennie were credited with the assists on the Wathier goal.
Repik's game-winner came off of a Robak shot from the point that was blocked down in front of Beskorowany. The puck caromed out to Repik, who swept it into the net for his 11th tally of the season. The secondary assist on the power-play marker went to Barlow, who notched his second helper of the night.
Grumet-Morris made 24 saves on 27 Stars shots for his 19th win of the season. Beskorowany stopped 11 of 13 Rampage attempts in the Texas loss. Prior to leaving the game, Raycroft turned aside seven of the nine San Antonio shots he faced.
The Rampage (33-23-3-1) conclude a three-in-three set with a 4 p.m. (CST) contest against the Lake Erie Monsters tomorrow at the AT&T Center.
