
Crunch Can't Overcome Falcons

Syracuse, NY (March 10, 2012) - Peter Holland recorded a pair of goals and pair of assists, but the Crunch's comeback fell short and were they were defeated 6-5 by the Springfield Falcons tonight at the MassMutual Center.
Kyle Cumiskey (1g, 1a) and Patrick Maroon (1g 2a) also recorded multiple points in tonight's loss, which dropped the Crunch to 25-27-4-4 on the season.
The Falcons scored three times on the power play, and once at even strength to jump out to a 4-1 lead after 20 minutes of play.
Tomas Kubalik opened the scoring at the 8:42 mark by tipping an Alexandre Giroux shot past Crunch netminder Antero Niittymaki for a power-play tally. Matt Calvert made it 2-0 just 23 seconds later.
Crunch left wing Josh Brittain was given a five-minute boarding penalty at the 14:27 mark of the opening frame. With Brittain in the penalty box the Falcons added two more power-play tallies, courtesy of Cody Bass at 15:09 and Wade MacLeod at 16:59.
The Crunch got on the board thanks to a shorthanded goal from Troy Bodie at the 15:45 mark of the first period. Bodie backhanded the puck past Falcons goaltender Manny Legace for his third goal of the season.
Crunch defender Cumiskey opened the second period with his third goal of the season, 21 seconds into the stanza. The Falcons responded with Kubalik's second goal of the game at the 4:25 mark of the period to make it 5-2.
Holland scored his first of the game by flipping the puck past Legace stick side at the 8:47 mark, and struck again two minutes later to cut the Falcons lead to 5-4. Legace was replaced by Paul Dainton after allowing four goals on 15 shots.
Bass was awarded a penalty shot with 1:53 to play in the period, after being taken down by Kyle Palmieri on a shorthanded breakaway. Bass converted the penalty shot to extend the Falcon's lead to 6-4 after 40 minutes of play.
Maroon scored the only goal of the third period at the 11:51 mark of the final frame. Maroon scored his 27th of the season on a tight-angle shot which snuck past Dainton. The Crunch had a power-play opportunity in the final minutes of regulation, but were unable to find the equalizer resulting in the final score 6-5.
