San Antonio Rampage News Release
CEDAR PARK, Texas - The San Antonio Rampage dropped a back-and-forth contest with the Texas Stars by a score of 4-3 in overtime on Friday night at the Cedar Park Center.
San Antonio forward Greg Rallo scored the game's first goal 2:17 into the first period. He collected the rebound of a Roman Derlyuk shot and deposited it behind Texas backstop Andrew Raycroft to give the Rampage a 1-0 edge. Center James Wright tallied the secondary assist on Rallo's 17th marker of the year.
Stars defenseman Dan Spang knotted the game at 1-1 at the 2:37 mark of the second period with a shot from the point that eluded Rampage netminder Jacob Markstrom. His third goal of the season was unassisted.
The Rampage regained the lead nearly five minutes later when right wing Bill Thomas beat Raycroft with a slap shot from the right circle to give San Antonio a 2-1 advantage. Defenseman Sean Sullivan notched the only assist on the play. Thomas' goal was his team-leading 19th of the season and put him past David Spina for third place on the Rampage's all-time scoring list with 122 points.
Just 40 seconds following the Thomas marker, Texas left wing Mike Hedden tied the game at 2-2 with a shot from the left side of the goal that deflected past Markstrom and into the net for his 10th tally of 2011-12. Defenseman Brad Lukowich registered the lone helper on the Stars score.
Before the second ended, the Rampage took their third lead of the game on a stellar passing play. Wright charged the net and received a feed from Rallo at the top of the crease before putting home his eighth marker of the year and handing San Antonio a 3-2 advantage at 14:42. Sullivan potted his second assist of the game with the secondary helper on Wright's goal.
The Stars tied the contest once again, this time at 3-3, when rookie forward Matt Fraser scored 12:52 into the third frame. He fired a wrister from the right circle by Markstrom to notch his the 27th goal of the campaign. Hedden and center Travis Morin were credited with the assists on the play.
Texas right wing Colton Sceviour scored the game-winning goal 3:36 into overtime to hand the Stars the victory. From the top of the crease, he redirected a Drew Schiestel pass into the net to register his 16th marker of the year. The secondary helper on the Sceviour goal went to Spang, who tallied his second assist of the night.
Raycroft stopped 25 of the 28 Rampage shots he faced to pick up his ninth win of the season. Markstrom turned aside 32 of 36 Stars attempts in the San Antonio loss.
The Rampage (32-23-3-1) and Stars square off again tomorrow in Cedar Park at 7 p.m. (CST) to conclude a back-to-back set.
