Ontario Reign News Release
ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign (39-15-3-2), defending Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings, fell to the Stockton Thunder (30-22-5-4) 3-2 in a shootout before their fourth sellout crowd of the season on Saturday night.
The Thunder were the first to light the lamp when Matt Bergland sent Brandon Davidson a strong pass from the red line, allowing the defenseman to skate in on a breakaway and score top shelf past Chris Carrozzi.
The Reign attacked the Thunder net for the first tying goal of the night. A scrum in front of Tyler Bunz forced a loose puck onto the stick of Kyle Kraemer. Kraemer then passed it to the point for Clune whose one-timer rebounded straight to Kevin Estrada who slammed it home for the Reign. Kraemer got on the board again at 10:18 scoring a go-ahead goal for the Reign. Mario Lamoureux fired a shot toward Bunz from the high slot but was denied. As Bunz lost control of the loose puck, Kraemer picked it up and fired it deep into the Thunder cage.
While on their first of five power plays of the night, Bergland caught a pass from the right face-off circle and wristed it top shelf past Carrozzi to tie the game 2-2 just 1:36 into the second period.
Both teams were kept off the board for the rest of regulation and the overtime period forcing a shootout. In the fifth round, Brady Calla was denied by Bunz, while Stockton's Shawn Weller found the back of the net to end the game 3-2 in favor of the Thunder.
