Ontario Reign News Release
ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, four-time Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's 2014 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, have announced that the team has agreed to terms with right wing Norm Ezekiel and rookie defenseman Chris Owens.
Ezekiel, 23, split last season between the AHL's Norfolk Admirals and the Utah Grizzlies in the ECHL. In 53 combined contests, Ezekiel posted seven points (3g, 4a) and 114 penalty minutes. The 5-foot-8, 185-pound winger has put up eight points (4g, 4a) and 249 penalty minutes in 89 career professional games, after breaking into the pro ranks with the IceCaps and Colorado Eagles in the 2012-13 season.
Prior to turning pro, the Barrie, Ontario native played two years of juniors from 2010-12 with the Barrie Colts in the Ontario Hockey League. Ezekiel skated in 124 career games for his hometown team, racking up 20 points (9g, 11a) and 262 penalty minutes for the Colts.
Owens, 25, is expected to make his professional debut this season with Ontario after wrapping up a four-year collegiate career with Acadia University. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound blueliner is fresh off helping lead the Axemen to an Atlantic University Sport championship, posting 31 points (9g, 22a) and 14 penalty minutes in 28 games. The native of St. John's, Newfoundland was also named to the AUS First All-Star Team in each of his past three seasons.
These transactions now increase the size of Ontario's training camp roster to 26 players.
