KALAMAZOO - Firing on all cylinders the Kalamazoo Wings smothered the Toledo Walleye from the opening face-off en route to a 5-2 preseason victory Saturday night at Wings West.

Like the night before, the K-Wings' defenseman helped the team jump out to an early lead. Finding room at the blue line, Sam Ftorek (1st) ripped a slap shot over the left shoulder of Jared Coreau 1:42 into the contest.

Kalamazoo's pressure continued throughout the period and their persistence paid off with a marker late in the period from Eric Kattelus (1st).

Settling down in the second period the Walleye cut the K-Wings lead in half five minutes into the stanza with a second chance effort from Kyle Bonis.

After squandering five power-play chances the game before, the K-Wings took advantage of their first man-advantage opportunity of the night. Slicing through the attack zone, Colin Murphy (1st) connected on a back-hander to push the K-Wings lead back to two goals.

While they didn't score on the power-play, the Walleye capitalized on the unsettled situation as their man-advantage chance expired. Locating the loose puck, Michael Leone answered back for Toledo to bring the Kalamazoo lead to 3-2.

Becoming the third K-Wings returner to light the lamp in the game, Matt Caria's (1st) third period goal 4:03 into the stanza served as Kalamazoo's knockout punch.

Moments later, Alex Mallet (1st) put the game out of reach netting the K-Wings second power-play goal of the net to extend the lead to three goals.

In a complete role-reversal of the night before Kalamazoo finished the game 2-for-4 on the power-play.
