Preview: Road Warriors Open Exhibition Play Tonight

THE STORY COMING IN

Fresh off a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals last season, the Greenville Road Warriors open their 5th season in Upstate South Carolina with a pair of exhibition games this weekend. Tonight's lineup against the South Carolina Stingrays will feature eight players who spent at least one game with Greenville last season, including veteran forward Bretton Cameron and second-year goaltender Jeff Malcolm. Last season, the Road Warriors finished the regular-season with a 39-27-6 record, good for 84 points and the 7th seed in the Eastern Conference during the 2014 Kelly Cup playoffs.

WARRIORS VS. STINGRAYS

The Road Warriors defeated the Stingrays, 5-4, in a shootout in preseason action last season at the Carolina Ice Palace. During the regular-season, Greenville finished 7-8-1 against the "˜Rays and now leads 34-27-2 in the all-time series. The two clubs will battle 14 times during the

2014-15 regular season, including Greenville's home opener on Oct. 24 at 7:00 p.m.

WARRIORS VS. GWINNETT

Greenville dominated last season's series with the Gladiators 10-3-0. Greenville holds a 32-22-5 advantage all-time against Gwinnett. During the 2013

pre-season however, the Gladiators handed the Road Warriors a 4-1 loss in Gwinnett. This season, the two rivals will meet a total of 11 times, including five of the last six games of the regular season.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

The Road Warriors roster currently consists of 26 players heading into tonight's exhibition opener. Consequently, fifth-year head coach Dean Stork will have some roster decisions to make by early next week. Many roster spots are still open and it will be a battle all the way until the season-opener in Orlando on Saturday, Oct. 18.
