LH Derek Holland (5-1, 1.03) vs. RH Austin Bibens-Dirkx (2-0, 0.64)
TONIGHT: Derek Holland makes his second Triple-A rehab start as the RedHawks host Iowa in the third of a 4-game series. Iowa has not faced Holland this season. Holland is rehabbing shoulder and knee problems and went 5 innings, allowing just a solo homer, in a 4-2 win over Round Rock on Wednesday. Iowa scored 7 runs in the second inning yesterday on the way to a 9-5 win in Game 2 of the series, which the Cubs lead 2-0. Iowa also leads the season series 9-5. OKC is atop the American South Division by 2 games over Albuquerque. Iowa leads the American North by 1.5 over Memphis. Austin Bibens-Dirkx gets the start for Iowa. He's made 3 relief appearances against OKC this season, allowing 5 unearned runs with no decisions.
BROWN REACHES 16: Matt Brown has hit safely in 16 straight games, going 21-for-62 (.339) with 2 homers and 10 RBIs in that time. Brown's streak matches the best by a RedHawk this year. Jarrod Saltalamacchia also had a 16-game streak from April 21-May 11. Brown's streak is the longest active hitting streak in the league. The longest overall hitting streak in the PCL this season is shared at 21 games between Las Vegas' J.P. Arencibia and Colorado Springs' Matt Miller.
GERMAN AT 11: Esteban German owns an 11-game hitting streak dating to July 9, prior to a stint on the DL. German has hits in all 6 games since returning from the DL on Tuesday. During the 11-game streak, German is 18-for-46 (.391) with 10 RBIs.
BOGGS UPDATE: Brandon Boggs raised his on-base streak to 31 games yesterday. The current streak began June 21 and is the longest active on-base streak in the PCL. Alex Gordon, formerly of Omaha, has the PCL's longest on-base streak of the season at 39 games from May 9-June 19. Boggs has reached base by hit or walk in each of his last 54 starts beginning May 24, the only break in the streak a strikeout as a pinch hitter June 19. Boggs is third in the league in walks with 66 and seventh in on-base percentage at .404.
ERA LEAD: Despite allowing 19 earned runs in the first 2 games of this series the RedHawks lead the PCL in team ERA at 3.81. The ERA was 3.70 prior to Saturday's series opener. Tacoma is second at 3.99. The RedHawks have allowed the fewest home runs (70) in the PCL, but have surrendered 18 in 14 games against Iowa.
IOWA DENTS PITCHING STATS: The RedHawks have compiled a 3.49 ERA against opponents other than the Iowa Cubs, working 836 innings while allowing 324 non-Iowa earned runs. Against Iowa, OKC has pitched 118 innings while giving up 75 earned runs, a 5.72 ERA. Iowa is the only team to have more than a 2-homer game against OKC pitching. The I-Cubs have a pair of 3-homer games and one 4-homer contest in the season series. Iowa has scored the most runs in an inning against the RedHawks (7, in yesterday's second) the most runs in a game (15, Saturday) and dealt the RedHawks their largest margin of defeat (8, Saturday).
GETTING THE FINAL OUT: Since the All-Star break, RedHawks pitching has allowed 99 runs, 50 of them with 2 outs in an inning (50.5%). For the season, 180 of OKC's 467 runs allowed have been with 2 out, 38.5%.
ODDS AND ENDS: OKC has not had a multiple-hit game by an individual this series...the RedHawks have collected 8 hits in each game, 1 per player...Matt Brown's homer yesterday was his second at home to go with 6 on the road...OKC is sixth in the league with 102 home runs...Zach Phillips returned to the RedHawks yesterday after being transferred to Double-A Frisco for one game to shore up the RoughRiders' staff, which has been hit heavily by recent trades...Phillips pitched 2 scoreless innings against San Antonio in a no decision in the Riders' 11-4 loss.
