Published on August 2, 2010 under Pacific Coast League (PCL1) News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - First baseman-outfielder Bryan LaHair of the Iowa Cubs and starting pitcher Philip Humber of the Omaha Royals have been named the Pacific Coast League's Player and Pitcher of the Week from July 26-August 1, the league announced Monday.

LaHair, 27, batted .455 (10-for-22) with four home runs, two doubles, seven runs scored and a league-leading 14 RBI during the week. His hot streak featured one of the best single-game performances of the 2010 season, when he belted three homers and drove in seven runs in a 15-7 win over Oklahoma City on July 31.

The 6-5, 240-pound left-handed slugger pummeled PCL pitching during the month of July, hitting .398 (33-for-83) with 10 homers, 10 doubles and 24 runs batted in. For the season, LaHair is batting .320 with 17 homers in 91 games, putting him in a three-way tie for the I-Cubs' lead in home runs with teammates Micah Hoffpauir and Brad Snyder.

This is LaHair's second career PCL Player of the Week honor, after receiving the award for his performance from August 7-13, 2006 as a member of the Tacoma Rainiers. He played each of his seven previous seasons in the Mariners organization.

Humber becomes the third consecutive member of the Omaha Royals to win the PCL's Pitcher of the Week Award, locking up the honor with a dazzling, complete-game shutout victory over the Nashville Sounds on July 30. In that contest, Humber allowed just four hits and two walks, struck out seven batters and induced a pair of double plays. He used just 97 pitches in the ballgame, picking up his first professional shutout.

The third-overall pick in the 2004 first-year player draft out of Rice University, Humber is in his sixth professional season and first with the Royals organization. Originally drafted by the New York Mets before spending time in the Twins system, the 27-year-old right-hander improved his career Triple-A record to 33-32 with a 4.64 ERA in 100 games pitched, including a 5-6 mark with a 4.47 ERA this season.
