Las Vegas Aviators News Release
LAS VEGAS: The Las Vegas 51s professional baseball team of the Pacific Coast League (PCL), Triple-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, will open an eight-game homestand on Wednesday, August 4 against American Conference opponent, the Memphis Redbirds, Triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, at 7:05 p.m. at Cashman Field. The four-game series will run from Wednesday-Saturday, August 4-7. Las Vegas will then host the Nashville Sounds, Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, in a four-game series from Sunday-Wednesday, August 8-11. All eight games will begin at 7:05 p.m.
The 51s, under manager Dan Rohn, are currently in third place in the Pacific Southern Division, 52-57 (.477), 9.0 games behind the first-place (Southern Division) Fresno Grizzlies (61-48, 560), Triple-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. Las Vegas' eight-game road trip will conclude in Sacramento, Calif., at Raley Field on Tuesday evening.
Las Vegas is averaging 4,728 fans (255,335) through 54 home dates in the 2010 season. The season-high crowd was 10,459 vs. Omaha on May 18. The 51s are 44,665 fans shy from reaching the 300,000 plateau in "home" attendance for the 28th straight season (1983-2010). The all-time attendance total now stands at 9,279,813.
Game two of the four-game series on Thursday will feature Budweiser Dollar Beer Night. Proper identification and wristbands are required for dollar beer night.
A spectacular post-game "Fireworks Show" will be presented on Friday and it's also a FRITOS Family Friday at the ball park. Las Vegas 51s fans will be randomly selected to participate in ballpark promotions and FRITOS bag wrappers are good for a 10% discount off 51s Souvenirs in the Team Store (restrictions apply).
51s Back Pack Night, to the first 2,500 fans through the gates, will be featured in the series finale against the Redbirds on Saturday, August 7. The summer vacation season is coming to an end and the start of school is right around the corner. The back pack is a terrific back-to-school giveaway item for 51s fans.
Memphis features four of the top 10 prospects in the Cardinals organization, according to Baseball America: right-handed pitcher Lance Lynn (No. 3), right-handed pitcher Eduardo Sanchez (No. 6), infielder/outfielder Allen Craig (No. 7) and second baseman Daniel Descalso (No. 9). Lynn (8-8, 5.22 ERA) is the scheduled starter vs. the 51s in Wednesday's series opener.
The 51s will then open the four-game series against Nashville with their second Sunday "night" home game of the season on August 8.
Game two of the four-game series will feature "Value Menu Monday" on August 9. The 51s and Aramark have teamed together for discounted food items on Hot Dogs, Popcorn, Peanuts, Cracker Jacks and Pretzels for just $1.00 per item.
Rita Rudner Bobblehead Night will be featured on Tuesday, August 10. The first 2,000 fans through the gates will receive a bobblehead of Rudner: the comedienne, writer and actress who is a frequent Las Vegas headliner.
