New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Fueled by five runs in the second inning and a strong pitching performance from Nic Ungs in his first game of the year, the New Orleans Zephyrs defeated the Albuquerque Isotopes 10-1 on Monday night.

With one out in the bottom of the second, 'Topes starting pitcher John Ely (4-2) walked three consecutive batters to load the bases, bringing up Ungs, who helped his own cause by lacing a three-run double into the gap in right-center field.

After Ely walked Scott Cousins, Cameron Maybin continued the Zephyrs' big inning, plating Ungs and Cousins on a two-run triple.

The Zephyrs' onslaught of Albuquerque pitching in the third, as Neil Wilson blasted his fourth run of the year, a three-run shot to left-centerfield off Ely.

After walking the first batter of the game, Ungs retired the next 13 batters in a row, before allowing the first Isotopes' hit of the night, a one-out single by Jamie Hoffman in the fifth that fell just in front of Maybin in center.

Ungs (1-0) allowed just one hit and one walk over five scoreless innings, striking out two.

Albuquerque found the scoreboard in the top of the seventh, when Justin Sellers lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Jay Gibbons.

The Z's charted their final two runs in the eighth when Cousins led off the inning with a solo shot, his 10th of the year, against Elian Herrera, who played the first seven innings as the Isotopes' second baseman. Barden also connected on a sacrifice fly scoring Mike Lamb.

The Zephyrs and Isotopes complete their five-game tilt Tuesday morning as righties Brian Lawrence (8-4, 4.73) and Seth Etherton (3-3, 4.35) match up at 11:30 a.m.
