Sounds Quiet Express Bats for 5-1 Win

NASHVILLE, TENN. - Sam Narron tossed seven scoreless frames and Luis Cruz drove in a pair of runs helping the Nashville Sounds to a 5-1 victory over the Round Rock Express in Pacific Coast League action Monday night at Herschel Greer Stadium. The Sounds (58-51) lead the series 2-1, as the Express (44-66) won the opener and hold an 8-7 advantage heading into the final game played between the two teams on Tuesday.

Nashville starter Narron (7-4) earned the victory, not allowing a hit in the first four innings. He finished not allowing any runs with two hits in 7.0 innings, with two walks and four strikeouts.

The Sounds got on the board first in the bottom of the third with two-out RBI single by Eric Farris. Martin Maldonado, who finished 3-for-4, added a solo homer to left-center in the fifth.

Round Rock threatened in the eighth with a Brian Esposito solo home run, closing the gap to 2-1.

Nashville added three insurance runs in the bottom half of the eighth. Mat Gamel reached on a fielding error by Round Rock reliever Jonah Bayliss and Joe Koshansky was hit by a pitch before Luis Cruz plated both with a one-out two-run double. Adam Stern followed with an RBI triple to right.

Express starter Shane Loux (2-11) was tagged with the loss; working 7.0 innings and giving up two runs on nine hits. Loux didn't yield a walk and had four strikeouts. Bayliss finished allowing three runs on two hits in his lone action of work in the eighth.

The first seven hitters in the Express lineup managed only two hits, with no one having multiple hits.

Round Rock and Nashville wrap up their four-game series at Herschel Greer Stadium on Tuesday with a 7:05 CDT first pitch. A pitcher to be determined will toe the rubber for the Express, opposed by right-hander Josh Butler (1-1, 7.59 ERA) for the Sounds.
