Oklahoma City Comets News Release

The Iowa Cubs scored two runs in the ninth inning to beat the Oklahoma RedHawks 4-2 Sunday at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City.

Micah Hoffpauir singled in the go-ahead run and Michael Restovich scored an insurance run on Casey McGehee's double-play grounder to put the Cubs in front. Michael Wurtz then struck out the side in the bottom of the ninth to secure the win.

Iowa got on the board first in the first when Ryan Theriot walked, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Buck Coats. However, Theriot's 16-game hit streak was snapped as he went 0-for-2 with two walks.

Both of Oklahoma 's runs came after lead-off triples. Joaquin Arias tripled to the lead off the fourth and scored on a single by Adam Hyzdu. Jason Hart tripled to lead off the seventh and scored on Adrian Brown's sac fly to tie the score at two.

RedHawk pitching struggled with control all afternoon. They issued a season-high 10 walks. Starting pitcher Rob Tejeda went 5.1 innings and gave up two runs on four hits with six walks and five strikeouts. Iowa starter Rich Hill went seven innings and gave up two runs on six hits with a walk and seven strikeouts.

Arias and Hyzdu both had two hits to lead the RedHawks offensively. McGehee was two-for-four for Iowa.

The RedHawks and Cubs will meet again at 7:05 p.m. Monday at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.
