Bees pour salt in Grizzlies wound for second straight game

FRESNO, Calif. - For the second straight game, the Grizzlies were held to three hits during a 7-1 shellacking by the Salt Lake Bees Sunday afternoon at Grizzlies Stadium.

In two games against Salt Lake, the Grizzlies have scored just two runs on six hits and are batting .245 on the season, last in the Pacific Coast League.

Salt Lake 2B Howie Kendrick continued his hot streak with a double and his third home run in two games. The Bees pounded out 11 hits, including five doubles with eight players recording at least one hit.

Jed Hansen delivered the only run of the game for the Grizzlies with his solo home run in the 9th inning to avoid a shutout. Chad Santos, Juan Melo and Hansen were the only Grizzlies to record a hit.

Starter Kasey Olenberger (4-1) allowed one hit and no runs through six innings to pick up the victory. Fresno starter Matt Kinney (4-4) allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits in 6.2 innings to take the loss.

Darin Erstad batted third and played DH in his second game of his rehab assignment, going 1-4 with his first hit in the series on an infield single to third base. Erstad is 1-for-9 on his rehab assignment.

The Grizzlies look to rebound Monday night when the series continues against the Bees at 7:05. RHP James Garcia is scheduled to take the mound for Fresno against RHP Steven Shell for Salt Lake.
