TUCSON, Ariz. - Chris Young homered and drove in three runs, and Adam Bass worked seven innings for the win as the Tucson Sidewinders handed the Portland Beavers an 11-1 defeat at Tucson Electric Park Saturday night.
Scott Hairston scored three times and added a two-run blast for the Sidewinders, who built their lead to 10-0 with a six-run fourth inning.
Bobby Hill went 3-for-3 with a walk for the Beavers (30-25), who have lost three straight road games for the first time this season.
Bass (2-0) gave up one unearned run and scattered eight hits over his seven innings. The right-hander struck out four and issued three walks in his third start for the Sidewinders after starting the season at Class AA Tennessee.
Eric Junge (4-5) gave up seven runs on seven hits, including two home runs, and five walks in three innings of work to take the loss.
The Sidewinders (32-25) got out to a 4-0 lead with Young's two-run homer in the first and Hairston's two-run clout in the third.
They went back to work with six runs in the fourth, getting a leadoff walk from Bass and a single from Alberto Callapso to start things. Young's double to center plated Bass, and Callapso came in to score on a sac fly from Stephen Drew, the top prospect of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Hairston and Chris Carter followed with a one-out walks, and a two-run double by Brian Barden, an RBI single by Matt Erickson and a sac fly by Robby Hammock capped the rally.
The Beavers avoided the shutout when Justin Leone scored on an error by Carter at first base in the sixth.
Tucson tacked on a final run in the eighth when Hairston scored on a double play groundout.
The Beavers and Sidewinders meet again Sunday night at 6 p.m.
