New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release


Five Zephyr pitchers combined to shutout the Memphis Redbirds on Sunday afternoon as the visiting New Orleans Zephyrs held on to win 2-0. The New Orleans offense used a pair of solo home runs as its only offense. Wiki Gonzalez led the fifth inning off with a solo jack to left and Tyrell Godwin blasted a homer in the seventh. Memphis starter Travis Smith pitched eight strong innings allowing five hits and two runs and took the loss. New Orleans starter Steve Watkins activated from the disabled list worked four scoreless and turned the game to the bullpen. Andrew Good pitched a scoreless inning and got the victory. Chris Schroeder and Micah Bowie were effective and Roy Corcoran pitched the ninth for the save. Memphis left 11 men on base in the game and left the bases loaded twice. The shutout for the Zephyr pitching staff is the fifth of the season. New Orleans leads the series 2-0.

Game Notes: Andrew Good was the winning pitcher on Sunday, but missed the start. He was the only starter to make every start in the rotation this season. The Zephyrs have had eight different pitchers earn a save and the team is 22 for 30 in save situations. The Washington Nationals have promoted 11 different Z's to the major leagues this year. New Orleans has used 43 different players and has made 77 transactions.
