
Reddick, Vogt Lead Cats Past Bees, 9-4

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Oakland A's outfielder Josh Reddick scored three times and catcher Stephen Vogt homered twice as the River Cats surged past the Salt Lake Bees by a score of 9-4 on Tuesday evening's series-opener at Raley Field.
Reddick-making his second rehab start of the year and first with the River Cats-hit second as the designated hitter, finishing 1-for-3 with a team-high three runs scored, one walk and one uncontested stolen base. Reddick's first run scored came after Vogt's first solo shot that put the Cats on the board in the third inning.
The home run cut Salt Lake's lead to 3-1, allowing the River Cats to take the lead with a four-run fourth inning that featured five hits including run-scoring singles from Michael Taylor and Hiro Nakajima, an RBI-double from Scott Moore and a run-scoring sacrifice fly from Shane Peterson. The River Cats scored at least one run in the third-through-seventh innings, highlighted by Vogt's second home run of the day in the sixth off of Bees righty Matt Shoemaker.
Vogt finished 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs and his seventh and eighth home runs of the season, while Grant Green extended his hitting streak to nine games, going 2-for-4 with a run, an RBI and a double. Taylor also went 2-for-4, plating three runs and scoring once, and Moore ended the game 1-for-3 with two runs, an RBI and a double.
River Cats starter Bruce Billings (6-2) earned the win, giving up four runs-three earned-on seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts in five innings of work. Relievers Pedro Figueroa, Evan Scribner, Paul Smyth, and Brian Gordon combined for four shutout innings and six strikeouts to close out the team's 9-4 victory.
The loss was charged to Salt Lake starter Matt Shoemaker (3-8) who gave up seven earned runs on eight hits and two walks with six strikeouts in six innings of work. Brad Hawpe and John Hester each went deep for the Bees, hitting their sixth and fourth home runs respectively.
The two teams return to Raley Field on Free Parking Wednesday presented by Jiffy Lube when River Cats southpaw Justin Thomas (2-3, 4.76 ERA) takes on Bees righty Jarrett Grube (0-1, 3.94 ERA) at 12:05 p.m.
