Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev.-Kila Ka'aihue hit his 15th home run of the season, tied for the lead in all of the Minor Leagues, en route to a 6-5 Reno Aces victory over the Las Vegas 51's on Tuesday night at Cashman Field.
The Aces were shutout through the first four innings of the game, mustering just two hits in the stretch. Reno peppered six runs across the next four frames, including a solo blast by Chris Owings in the sixth and another by Ka'aihue in the eighth.
Las Vegas had the go-ahead run at the plate in the bottom of the ninth, following a walk issued by reliever Matt Gorgen, but Juan Centeno grounded out to end the game.
Aces batters combined for 13 hits on the night, including four players with two hits apiece. Outfielder Tony Campana knocked in a season-high three RBI in the game, off three different Las Vegas pitchers.
Las Vegas outfielder Collin Cowgill, who was named the Pacific Coast League Rookie of the Year while with Reno in 2011, went 3-for-5 against his former club, with two runs scored.
Fresh up from Double-A Mobile, Reno reliever Bryan Woodall was charged with a blown save, but earned his first win of the season for the Aces. Woodall gave up two runs-one earned-on three hits through 0.2 innings, while striking out one. Gorgen was credited with his first save of the season for his effort.
RHP Armando Rodriguez was charged with his second loss of the season for the 51's. He gave up two earned runs on three hits, including Ka'aihue's homer, in the eighth.
The series continues tomorrow at Cashman Field. RHP Zeke Spruill (1-1, 5.06 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while Las Vegas will counter with RHP Carlos Torres (3-3, 5.55 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT, and all of the action can be heard on KPLY 630 AM.
The Aces return home on June 1 for a stretch of 12 home games in 13 days. Tickets are on sale for the upcoming homestand, and all Aces home games, at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
