Tucson Padres News Release
The Tucson Padres hit three home runs Tuesday and received four scoreless innings from their bullpen to defeat the Fresno Grizzlies, 5-1 at Kino Stadium.
Fresno went ahead early with a two-out, RBI single from Roger Kieschnick in the top of the first. Jonathan Galvez tied the game in the second inning with a long home run just left of the batters' eye in center field. Dean Anna followed with his team-leading sixth home run in the third to put the Padres in front, 2-1.
The score remained the same until Cody Decker hit a pinch-hit home run into the left field bullpen in the bottom of the eighth. It was Decker's second pinch-hit homer in two years in Tucson. The Padres added two more runs in the inning on Anna's automatic double and a sacrifice fly from Galvez.
In a duel between two starting pitchers making their Triple-A debuts, Burch Smith came out on the winning end against Fresno's Austin Fleet. Smith went five innings and allowed one run on six hits. He struck out five and did not walk a batter. Fleet surrendered five hits and two runs in six innings of work. Brad Boxberger, Tommy Layne and Miles Mikolas closed out the game for Tucson with four shutout innings.
