Sacramento River Cats News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Oakland A's outfielder Josh Reddick crossed the plate twice-giving him five runs in two games with Sacramento- and made a highlight-reel diving catch in the sixth to help the River Cats defeat the visiting Salt Lake Bees by a score of 7-2 on Wednesday afternoon at Raley Field.
After Grant Green reached first on a throwing error to lead off the bottom of the first inning, Reddick grounded into a fielder's choice. With Shane Peterson at the dish, Reddick stole second base, then came around to score on a Michael Choice RBI-double. After a Michael Taylor walk, Daric Barton singled up the middle, bringing Choice around to score, giving Sacramento a 2-0 lead after one.
The Bees tied the game at two with a run in both the third and fourth innings, but Sacramento took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth when Bees catcher John Hester over-threw the second baseman in an attempt to catch Parrino stealing, allowing Barton to score from third. The River Cats scored twice in the seventh on Choice's two-run double, and twice more in the bottom of the eighth on Parrino's two-run home run, giving Sacramento its 7-2 victory.
Reddick finished the game 1-for-4 with two runs, one walk and one steal, and is now 2-for-7 with five runs, two walks, two steals and zero strikeouts in two rehab starts with Sacramento. Choice went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, a run scored and a double, while Parrino went 1-for-4 with a steal, two RBIs and his second home run of the season.
River Cats starter Justin Thomas (3-3) held Salt Lake to two runs-one earned-on six hits and zero walks with four strikeouts in seven innings for the win. Chris Resop and Dan Otero combined for two perfect innings of relief.
The loss was charged to Bees starter Jarrett Grube (0-2), who gave up three unearned runs on three hits and three walks with five strikeouts in five innings. All four Salt Lake pitchers who appeared in the game gave up at least one run.
The River Cats and Bees return to Raley Field on Miller Lite Thursday when Sacramento strikeout king Travis Banwart (2-1, 5.29 ERA) takes on Salt Lake right-hander Barry Enright (4-2, 4.56 ERA) at 7:05 p.m.
