Redbirds Fly by Topes in Game Two

MEMPHIS -- Jamie Romak, Justin Christian and Adron Chambers all hit home runs in the seventh inning to power the Memphis Redbirds to a 5-1 victory over the Albuquerque Isotopes on Wednesday night at Auto Zone Park.

The game was scoreless entering the seventh inning. The Isotopes scratched for the game's first run. Jeremy Moore singled to right, was sacrifice to second by Brian Barden, and took third on a wild pitch. With two outs, Matt Angle laid down a bunt single up the third-base line to make it 1-0.

Starting pitcher Angel Castro was lifted for a pinch hitter in that seventh inning. He allowed three hits, one walk and struck out six in six scoreless innings.

Anthony Ortega replaced him in the seventh, and was greeted by single to left by Chris Swauger. Romak hit a towering two-run home run, his ninth, to give Memphis a 2-1 lead. After a flyout to left, Rob Johnson walked and Christian hit a two-run home run to left. Then the leadoff hitter Chambers followed with a home run down the right-field line.

The Topes managed four hits in the game. Memphis starter Maikel Cleto walked five and struck out seven in 6 1/3 scoreless innings. Kevin Siegrist (1-0) went 1 2/3 scoreless innings to get the win.

Game three of the four-game series is Thursday. Matt Magill will start for the Topes, while Boone Whiting goes for the Redbirds. First pitch is at 6:05 MDT. All the action can be heard on 610 The Sports Animal with Josh Suchon on the call.
