NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Memphis Redbirds defeated the division-rival Nashville Sounds 3-2 on Sunday night at Herschel Greer Stadium. Memphis took three of four from Nashville in the series and move into a first-place tie with Iowa in the PCL American Northern Division.

With the win in the season and series finale between the two Volunteer State teams, the Redbirds take possession of the Tennessee Lottery I-40 Cup. Memphis won nine of the 16 games on the season.

Audry Perez collected his first Triple-A hit and Chad Huffman had two knocks. Adron Chambers had two hits including a home run, a sacrifice bunt and a stolen base.

Starter Scott McGregor (4-5) turned in his fourth quality start and earned the win for Memphis. The right-hander tossed seven innings while allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits with six strikeouts and no walks. He threw 86 pitches, 64 for strikes.

The Sounds reached McGregor for a run early, scoring on a Scooter Gennett infield single in the second inning, giving the home team a 1-0 advantage.

Chambers tied the score at 1-1 with his seventh homer of the season in the top of the fourth. The one-out jack over the right field wall extended Chambers' hitting streak to 10 games.

The Sounds came back in the bottom of the fifth when a lead-off double by the pitcher followed by a sacrifice and an error lead to Sounds' starter Chris Narveson scoring on a force out. Memphis manager Ron Warner was ejected after arguing the scoring play, but the 2-1 score did not hold up for long.

Back-to-back two-out RBI singles by Jamie Romak and Perez in the top of the sixth inning moved the score to 3-2 in favor of the Redbirds and concluded the scoring for the night.

Sam Freeman pitched a clean eighth inning with a strikeout and Michael Blazek threw a 1-2-3 ninth with a game-ending strikeout for his second save.

For the Sounds, Narveson (2-6) took the loss while the relief trio of Michael Olmsted, Zach Kroenke and Rob Wooten finished the game with three scoreless innings.

The Pacific Coast League's All-Star break starts Monday in Reno, Nev. with the home-run derby. The Triple-A All-Star Game will be played Wednesday, pitting the PCL against the International League All-Stars. Brock Peterson and Michael Wacha are representing Memphis, with Peterson participating in the derby.

The Redbirds return home on Thursday, July 18, to open an eight-game homestand with Oklahoma City and Round Rock.
