Las Vegas wins over Tucson

Giancarlo Alvarado allowed only one run in 6.2 innings to lead the Las Vegas 51s to a 6-2 win over the Tucson Padres Saturday at Cashman Field. The Padres enter the PCL All-Star break with a 2.5 game lead in the Southern Division and have been in first place for 17 straight days.

Wilmer Flores picked up his league-leading 75th RBI in the bottom of the first on a groundout to give Las Vegas a 1-0 lead. Zach Lutz followed Flores with an RBI single for the 51s second run of the inning. Francisco Pena's RBI double and Ruben Tejada's RBI single in the second extended Las Vegas's lead to 4-0.

The Padres jumped on the board in the top of the third on Brandon Allen's RBI single. The 51s responded in the fourth with a run off Matt den Dekker's single to center. Las Vegas added a run in the seventh when Brandon Hicks scored on Eddy Rodriguez's throwing error. Cody Decker's RBI single in the eighth cut the deficit to four runs.

Alvarado won his third game for Las Vegas after allowing a run on four hits and three walks while striking out five. Matt Andriese was charged with the loss after surrendering eight hits, five runs and two walks in 3.2 innings. The Padres do not play Sunday through Wednesday.
