Fresno Grizzlies News Release
West Sacramento, Calif. - In a game that featured no runs through the first nine innings, Jemile Weeks hit a two-run single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th to give the Sacramento River Cats a 2-1 walk-off win over the Fresno Grizzlies on Sunday at Raley Field.
The Grizzlies enter the All-Star break splitting the four-game series with the River Cats. Juan Perez drove in the game's first run in the top of the 10th with a triple to score Ydwin Villegas from second base.
Grizzlies reliever Dan Runzler retired the first batter he faced in the 10th before allowing back-to-back singles and a walk to set the table for Weeks. It was Runzler's fifth blown save in six chances this season.
Both starting pitchers struck out seven over seven shutout innings. Fresno's Mitch Lively surrendered just one hit while walking three over his career-high seven frames. Dan Straily of Sacramento allowed four hits and two walks as he faced only one true threat in the start.
The Grizzlies' first runners in scoring position situation did not occur until the seventh inning. Roger Kieschnick hit a bloop single into short right field, and Todd Linden hit a double to right to advance Kieschnick to third. After the River Cats elected to intentionally walk Ehire Adrianza to load the bases, Straily induced a double play by Carter Jurica to end the threat.
Adrianza had the game's first hit in the third inning while the River Cats did not record their first base hit until Shane Peterson's one-out single in the fifth inning. Adrianza reached base safely four times with the single, two walks, and a hit by pitch.
Brett Bochy threw two scoreless innings of relief for Fresno. The right-hander allowed two hits and struck out two.
Despite allowing the go-ahead run in the 10th, Brian Gordon picked up the win for Sacramento.
Perez had two hits and a stolen base for Fresno.
Sunday was the first time the Grizzlies entered extra innings in a scoreless tie since July 19, 2010 vs. Salt Lake (L, 0-1 in 12 innings).
The Grizzlies return to action after the All-Star break on Thursday, July 18th against the Tacoma Rainiers at Chukchansi Park.
