Sacramento River Cats News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Jemile Weeks delivered with a one-out, two-RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning to complete a one run comeback and give the River Cats a 2-1 win over the Fresno Grizzlies on Sunday afternoon at Raley Field.
Neither team was able to get a runner home until the 10th inning, when a Juan Perez triple to the left-center field gap was good enough to bring Ydwin Villegas across the plate from second base to give the Grizzlies the 1-0 lead. The River Cats would not be dismayed though, as singles via Shane Peterson and Hiro Nakajima along with a walk from Andy Parrino loaded the bases in the bottom half of the inning. Weeks delivered the game-winning hit against left-handed reliever Dan Runzler, driving the ball up the middle to bring around Peterson and Nakajima for the Cats first walk-off of the season.
Brian Gordon picked up the win for Sacramento, rebounding from a top of the tenth inning in which he gave up one run off of the Perez triple. Runzler took the loss for Fresno on top of blowing his fifth save of the season, surrendering two runs off of three hits in 0.1 innings of work.
For Straily it was the fourth time this season that he had allowed an earned run or less of his five starts, throwing 7.0 scoreless frames and racking up seven strikeouts. After going 0-for-3 at the plate today, outfielder Michael Choice ended his 10 game hitting streak that he began on July 4. Meanwhile infielder Hiro Nakajima added on to his hitting streak, tying his season-high hitting streak at 10 games.
The River Cats will join the rest of the PCL in taking three days off for the All-Star break before resuming play on July 18. The Cats will head to Utah to take on the Salt Lake Bees, before returning home on July 22 to face the Colorado Springs Sky Sox.
