TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers offense was firing on all cylinders on Wednesday night, defeating the Memphis Redbirds 13-7 to earn a series split.

Despite a seven-run outburst in the third inning of the contest, the Redbirds would not cross the plate in any other frame.

With 12 games to play, the loss keeps the Redbirds five games behind the first place Express after Round Rock's defeat earlier in the evening.

Tacoma's bats came out hot, crossing the plate seven times in the contest's first two innings. The Redbirds, however, would answer back in the third inning.

Redbirds' outfielder Jeremy Hazelbaker put Memphis on the board with his ninth home run of the season, a three-run shot to deep right field. Later in the inning, the Redbirds loaded the bases with walks from Jacob Wilson and and Anthony Garcia to pair with an Xavier Scruggs single.

With no room of the bases, Dean Anna drew a bases loaded walk to earn the Redbirds' their fourth run of the inning. Ed Easley followed with a free pass of his own, cutting the Rainiers' lead to 7-5. After the back-to-back walks, Aldemys Diaz delivered a seemingly innocuous pop-up in the infield that was dropped by Tacoma first baseman Ji-Man Choi, allowing to runs to cross the plate for Memphis, tying the contest at 7-7.

However, it was all down hill for the Redbirds as a team from that point on as the Rainiers scored two runs in each of the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Choi was the stand-out star for Tacoma, finishing the contest with a 4-for-5 night, including a grand slam and seven RBI.

In just his third Triple-A outing, Memphis starting pitching Arturo Reyes did not make it past the fourth inning, allowing career-highs in runs (nine) and walks (four) in 4.0 innings on the hill. Reliever Tyler Waldron was charged with four runs on four hits in his 2.0 innings of work on the evening.

After wrapping-up their with the Rainiers, the Redbirds head to Reno to open up a four-game set with the Aces (Triple-A Diamondbacks). Last season the Aces took three of four from the Redbirds at AutoZone Park. Coming off his first win of the season, left-hander Marco Gonzales (1-4, 5.03) gets the start for Memphis and will be opposed by Reno's Aaron Blair (6-2, 3.30). First pitch from Aces Ballpark on Thursday is set for 9:05pm CT.
