New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Jhonatan Solano delivered a go-ahead two-run single in the sixth inning, and the New Orleans Zephyrs defeated the Salt Lake Bees, 3-2 on Thursday night.

In a matchup of the two worst records in the Pacific Coast League, the Z's trailed 1-0 into the sixth before stringing together a two-out rally.

Zack Cox singled and Bees starter Nick Tropeano walked Vinny Rottino before Isaac Galloway doubled into the left field corner to tie the game. Solano followed by lacing a single to left-center to score a pair.

Roger Kieschnick drew Salt Lake back within a run with a two-out, pinch-hit RBI single in the eighth, but Chris Reed recovered to strike out Kyle Kubitza to strand the tying and go-ahead runs on base.

Nick Wittgren gave up a leadoff single to Jett Bandy in the ninth, then struck out the side to notch his 15th save of the year, and first since July 28.

Jake Esch (1-1) was the beneficiary of the rally, picking up his first career Triple-A victory after limiting the Bees to one run and five hits in six innings.

Esch led off the game by allowing a triple to Taylor Featherston, who scored on a ground out by Collin Cargill, but Esch settled in to face the minimum number of batters over the next four innings.

Galloway and Solano had two hits each for the Zephyrs, who won for only the second time in their last 19 games. Reid Brignac went 0-for-4 to snap a 19-game hit streak, the second-longest in the PCL this season.

Tropeano (3-6) was charged with three runs and eight hits in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out six and walked two.

The Z's resume the final home series of the season on Friday at 7 p.m., with postgame fireworks.
