Salt Lake Bees News Release

SALT LAKE CITY (Aug. 27) - The Salt Lake Bees and New Orleans Zephyrs face off this weekend for the first and only time of 2015. The Bees hold a 43-39 all-time edge in the match up and are 17-22 at Zephyr Field. Last season, the two teams split the series at Smith's Ballpark.

Nick Tropeano takes the mound tonight coming off a spot start for the Angels. The righty has three career appearances against New Orleans including two starts and one relief outing. Tropeano tossed 14 and two-thirds shutout innings and collected 13 strikeouts versus the Zephyrs. Following Tropeano in the rotation will be Tyler DeLoach, Jo-Jo Reyes, Adam Wilk and Nate Smith.

Gary Brown and Roger Kieschnick have been heading the Bees offensive effort over the last five games, respectively batting .375 and .344. Brown adds this performance to a spectacular month of August in which the center fielder is batting a season-best .328.

Four Angels remain on the Bees roster as part of Major League rehabilitation assignments including Collin Cowgill, David Freese, Matt Joyce and Taylor Featherston. Cowgill leads the rehabbers with a .353 average, two doubles, one homerun and two RBIs over nine games, while Freese has contributed six RBIs, including a grand slam home run on Aug. 25.

Vinnie Pestano keeps his scoreless inning streak alive and has shutout opponents through 21.1 innings and 23 appearances. Through this span, Pestano has allowed just eight hits and four walks while collecting 27 strikeouts.

With 32 consecutive games reaching base, Kyle Kubitza jumps to third in the league for longest on-base streak this season, trailing only Efren Navarro (34) and Domingo Santana (43), and ranks first for longest active streak. The 32-game span has seen Kubitza draw 23 walks for a .387 on-base percentage and hit 10 doubles and three home runs.

Bees pitcher Alex Sanabia has some history in New Orleans as he spent the majority of 2014 in a Zephyr uniform and collected a 7-4 record with a 3.98 ERA. He faced the Bees once that year and took the win after giving up just two earned runs in six and two-thirds innings pitched.

The Bees' final homestand runs from Monday, Aug. 31 through Thursday, Sept. 3 at Smith's Ballpark. Talk show host Wendy Williams will visit the park on Monday to throw out the first pitch and on Tuesday, the Bees will host Prostate Cancer Awareness Night.
