Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, VA - Troy Brouwer scored his 33rd and 34th goals of 2006-07 to establish a new franchise record for goals in a season, and Bruno St. Jacques broke a 3-3 tie with five minutes left in regulation, as the Norfolk Admirals (43-17-5-1) tied another Norfolk record with their 43rd victory of the season, out-scoring the Binghamton Senators (17-38-2-5) 4-3 on Friday night at Scope.
The Senators took the lead 6:42 into the opening frame with a power play goal by Arttu Luttinen. The Admirals tied things up at 1-1 nearly three minutes later. Martin St. Pierre sent a cross-ice pass from the right wall near the hashmarks to Kris Versteeg at the left faceoff circle. Versteeg sent a wrist shot over Binghamton goaltender Kelly Guard's left shoulder at 9:41.
Binghamton took the lead again midway through the second period. Andrew Ebbett found a rebound at the top of the crease and lifted a backhand shot over Norfolk netminder Corey Crawford's left arm at 10:28.
The lead was short-lived, as Brouwer scored two goals in a 2:25 span to give Norfolk the lead. Brouwer's first goal occurred when he won a battle for a loose puck through the neutral zone and sent a wrister from the right circle past Guard glove-side at 11:11.
Brouwer's go-ahead, record-setting goal came on a one-timer from the slot. Pierre Parenteau found an errant shot behind the net and centered the puck toward the slot where Brouwer dented the twine at 13:36. St. Pierre picked up his third assist of the game on the play.
The Senators tied the game midway through the third period with a shorthanded goal. Josh Hennessy was the beneficiary of an Admirals turnover, and he carried the puck into the Admirals zone two-on-none with Ryan Vesce. Hennessy dished the puck to Vesce at the right side of the slot, and Vesce beat Crawford at 7:58.
Bruno St. Jacques scored the game-winner at 15:01 off a faceoff. St. Jacques sent a wrist shot from the point that found its way through traffic and past Guard to put Norfolk up 4-3.
Corey Crawford (30 shots, 27 saves) extended his franchise record for wins in a single season to 33 victories, tying him once again for the AHL lead in that department. Kelly Guard (33 shots, 29 saves) got the loss.
Norfolk was 1-4 on the power play while Binghamton was 1-3
