Providence Comes Back For 3-2 Win Over Phantoms

PROVIDENCE, RI - Philadelphia defensemen Martin Grenier and David Printz both ended personal 23-game goalless streaks, but the Providence Bruins charged back with three goals in a five-minute span to take a 3-2 win over the Phantoms at Dunkin' Donuts Center on Friday night.
All the scoring took place in the third period. Grenier's drought-drencher came first, just 1:50 into the frame. Jared Ross won a faceoff back to Grenier on the right point, and his wrist shot beat goaltender Hannu Toivonen to open the scoring.
Just over two minutes later, Printz accomplished a similar task. A puck came to him on the left point, and he fired a shot through traffic and past Toivonen at 3:57 of the period. It gave the Phantoms a 2-0 cushion.
But Providence started their comeback not long afterwards. Ben Walter jumped on a loose puck behind the Phantoms net and centered it out in front, where T.J. Trevelyan was waiting to put it past Martin Houle at the 5:25 mark.
The equalizer came four minutes later. David Krejci jumped off the bench and joined Ryan Glenn on an odd-man rush. Krejci finished it off with a high wrister that went by Houle's glove side at 9:28.
Walter recorded the game-winner just over a minute later at the 10:39 mark. He took a puck down behind the left side of the net before centering for Trevelyan, whose bid was blocked by Houle. But the rebound went to the right of the net and Walter, completing his journey behind the cage, came out and cleaned it up for the 3-2 win.
Houle absorbed the loss despite stopping 32 of 35 shots, including all 19 he faced in a busy second period. Toivonen took the win with 17 saves on 19 Philadelphia chances.
Elsewhere in the East Division, Albany lost to Lowell on Friday and Bridgeport lost to Wilkes-Barre in a shootout. The results leave the Phantoms six points behind the Sound Tigers and five behind Albany in the fight for the division's final playoff spot.
