San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO - In a highly touted match between the Ferraro twins, Chris Ferraro earned bragging rights over brother, Peter, in the Rampage's 7-5 victory over West Division rival Peoria Rivermen at the AT&T Center Friday night. The record-breaking night was witnessed by 6,437 people as Don MacLean and (Chris) Ferraro each had a five-point night to set a new franchise record for most points scored in a game by a single player.
In an action-packed six-goal opening period accompanied with a couple of fights, each team battled for the lead heading into the second stanza with a 3-3 score. Peoria's (Peter) Ferraro scored first with a shot over Rampage goaltender, Josh Tordjman, at the 4:15 mark. A little less than five minutes later, (Chris) Ferraro, along with Keith Yandle, helped MacLean tap in the Rampage's first of two power-play goals of the night.
Rivermen leading scorer Trent Whitfield responded with a power-play goal at the 10:44 mark. Eleven seconds later, MacLean and Alex Leavitt returned the favor assisting (Chris) Ferraro on the Rampage's second goal of the night to even the score at 2-2.
Mike Glumac swirled around from behind the net and whisked the puck behind Tordjman for a 3-2 lead at the 17:23 mark in the first session. Leavitt, the AHL's player of the week, responded at the crease when he tipped in (Chris) Ferraro's pass from the left corner to tie the game at 3-3 only 22 seconds after Glumac's goal. MacLean was credited with the other assist on Leavitt's first of two goals on the night.
After allowing a season-high 23 shots on goal in the opening period, the Rampage took the lead less than five minutes into the second stanza when Leavitt recovered the puck after Marek Schwartz fended off a shot by MacLean for a 4-3 lead. (Chris) Ferraro tallied his third assist of the night on Leavitt's sixth goal of the season.
The trio teamed up once more as Leavitt and Ferraro helped MacLean extend the Rampage lead to 5-3 at the 14:55 mark.
With 54 seconds left in the second period, Whitfield struck again with the Rivermen's fourth goal of the night, against David LeNeveu, who replaced Tordjman at the beginning of the period.
Shortly into the closing period, Glumac scored again for an even 5-5 score, the fourth time of the night for a tied score.
The Rampage stepped it up twice more when Logan Stephenson, at the 8:38 mark, gained control of the puck at the blue line for an easy unassisted goal. Less than two minutes later, Randall Gelech and Daniel Winnik helped Pascal Rheaume tip in the final goal of the night.
The Rampage picked up their 28th win of the season and now have 60 points as they were outshot for the seventh time in the last eight games.
The Rampage (28-35-1-3) host the Iowa Stars next Friday at 7 p.m. at the AT&T Center.
