Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins and Philadelphia Phantoms were involved in 40 minutes of scoreless action Friday evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center before combining to explode for five third period goals and an eventual 3-2 P-Bruins win in front of 8,612 fans. Providence got goals from rookies T.J. Trevelyan and David Krejci and second-year Bruin Ben Walter in a span of just over five minutes midway through the third frame.
The Phantoms began the scoring 1:50 into the final period as Martin Grenier beat P-Bruins goalie Hannu Toivonen five-hole for his second goal of the year, assisted on by Jared Ross. Just more than two minutes later, defenseman David Printz lit the lamp, firing a shot on goal from the high left wing for his fourth goal of the season. Eric Meloche and John Slaney had the helpers.
Less than two minutes later, the Providence offense took control. Trevelyan opened the scoring for the P-Bruins at the 5:25 mark with his 21st goal of the year, set up in front of Martin Houle's net by linemates Ben Walter and Nate DiCasmirro. Four minutes passed and Krejci tied the game at two with his 22nd goal, led up the ice by blueliner Ryan Glenn. Only one minute later, Walter effectively ended the game with his 20th goal, following his own rebound to give Providence a 3-2 lead. The goal gave he, Trevelyan and DiCasmirro multiple-point nights.
Toivonen picked up the win, his fourth in a row and 50th in a P-Bruins uniform, with 12 saves while Houle had 26 stops. Providence out-shot Philadelphia 35-19 overall, including 19-3 in the second period.
Penalty minutes were even at eight on each side as both teams were a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
Tomorrow, the P-Bruins travel north to battle the Springfield Falcons at 7:05 p.m. at the MassMutual Center before returning home Sunday against the Lowell Devils. The game, beginning at 4:05 p.m., will be followed by a post-game autograph session.
