Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

GENEVA, IL -- Jason Ray pitched a rain-shortened six-inning complete game shutout in a 2-0 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Wednesday afternoon at Elfstrom Stadium. Paul Fagan gave up two runs over 5-2/3 innings, but took the loss.

Kane County (21-18) broke out on top in the second inning. Anthony Recker had a ground rule double to lead off the frame. Jose Pineda followed with an RBI single to right for a 1-0 Cougar lead.

Wisconsin (17-22) had a great opportunity in the top of the third. Bryan Sabatella singled to start the inning and Jairo Hernandez was hit by a pitch. Robby Hudson dropped a sacrifice bunt to put runners at second and third with one out. But, Ray got Casey Craig and Luis Valbuena to pop out to end the inning.

The pitchers dominated the middle innings. Fagan retired ten straight batters after the RBI single by Pineda. Ray set down eleven straight Rattlers until Valbuena singled with two out in the top of the sixth.

Kane County broke through again with a two-out rally as the rain started to fall in the bottom of the sixth. Jeff Baisley singled with two out and stole second. Recker picked a 1-2 pitch out of the rain drops and singled into left driving home Baisley for a 2-0 Cougar lead. That was the point of the game where the rain delay started. Just under forty-five minutes later, the game was declared over.

Wednesday was the second time this season Fagan has lost a rain-shortened game by a score of 2-0. He was beaten by West Michigan on April 29 at Fox Cities Stadium in a five inning game.

Game three of the series is set for Thursday night. Harold Williams (0-0, 1.82ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. The Cougars plan on sending Trey Shields (2-5, 5.93ERA) to the hill. Game time is 6:00pm.
