Devil Rays get Schooled on Education Day
May 17, 2006 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Southwest Michigan Devil Rays News Release
The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays dropped today's game to the South Bend Silver Hawks by a score of 6-2. The Rays were plagued by sloppy defense, as they committed five errors in the game leading to four unearned runs.
The day started out great as the sun was shining and the stands were packed with school children on Education Day. Alex Jamieson was the second batter for the Rays in the first inning. He connected for a solo homer over the right field fence to give the Devil Rays the early advantage. It didn't get any better than that for the rest of the ballgame.
Rays starter Greg Reinhard remains winless, picking up his fourth loss of the season. Reinhard pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed four hits with two earned runs, two walks and a pair of strikeouts.
The Devil Rays bullpen combo of Drew Bigda, Billy Evers, and Aaron Walker combined for 3 1/3 innings pitched. Together, they gave up four hits and three walks with a couple of strikeouts.
Silver Hawks center fielder Justin Upton continues to show why he was the first overall draft pick in 2005 by going 3-4 with an RBI, two runs scored and a walk.
The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays and South Bend Silver Hawks will go for round three Thursday evening at 6:35pm. It's Thirsty Thursday at C.O. Brown, presented by Super Rock 104.9 FM. Fans can get a beer or a Pepsi for only $1 until the end of the 7th inning. Stick around, because after the game, there will be a live music performance from "Streetsmart" in the TDS Metrocom Left Field Bar.
