Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
Jordan Renz was selected by Major League Baseball Advanced Media (BAM) as the Midwest League's Player of the Week for the week ending May 14th.
Renz was 10-for-29 (.345) with three doubles, a triple, and three home runs while driving in nine men and scoring six runs. Against the Dayton Dragons on May 8, Renz was 2-for-4 with a homer, double, and three runs batted in. He followed that effort up with a 3-for-4 night the following evening that included another homer, a triple, and three runs scored.
The announcement was released just prior to Renz's record-setting evening on Monday when he torched Clinton pitching for three round-trippers, including an eighth inning grand slam, and 10 RBI. The 10 RBI equaled a league record that had not been matched since 1978 and propelled him into the league lead in that category with 35.
Renz, a native of Broken Arrow, OK, and a former 4th round pick of the Angels in 2002, is the second Kernel to receive league accolades this season. Pitcher Robert Mosebach was honored for his performances on the mound for the week ending May 7th.
