Bees Topple Lugnuts Again

Burlington, IA - A five run fourth inning propelled the Burlington Bees to a 7-2 victory over the Lansing Lugnuts on Wednesday afternoon at Community Field. It is the fourth consecutive win for the Bees.

Lansing jumped on top of the Bees in the fourth when Anthony Hatch singled home Brian Pettway to make the score 1-0. The Lugnuts extended the lead after Brian Bormaster doubled down the left field line to make it 2-0.

The lead did not last long for the Lugnuts as Burlington sent 11 batters to the plate in the botom half of the inning. Miguel Vega started the scoring for the Bees when he belted a three run homer to left field to give Burlington a 3-2 lead. After the Bees loaded the bases, Valentino Arce ripped a two run single into center field to push the lead to 5-2.

Burlington added two more runs in the game, including an eighth inning RBI single by Ethien Santana that plated the final run of the game to give the Bees a 7-2 win.

Michael Penn threw six innings in the win, giving up five hits and two runs.

Kristian Bell suffered the loss for Lansing, tossing 3 1/3 innings while allowing five runs, four of which were earned, on five hits.

Lansing (23-15) and Burlington (16-21) will play the third game of the four game series on Thursday evening. Russ Savickas (1-0, 2.87) will take the hill for the Lugnuts, while Chris Nicoll (2-2, 2.00) will get the start for the Bees. First pitch is set for 8:00 p.m. EST.
