
Thompson Becomes 50th Wizard To Reach Major Leagues

Fort Wayne, IN - Right-hander Mike Thompson became the 50th former Fort Wayne Wizard to reach the major leagues when he was promoted from Triple-A Portland to the San Diego Padres.
Thompson spent a portion of the 2000 and 2001 season with the Wizards, going 1-3 with a 5.13 earned run average in six starts in 2000 and 0-1 with a 6.00 ERA in one start in 2001. In eight seasons with the Padres minor league system, he is 54-47 with a 4.52 ERA in 177 appearances, including 144 starts.
He is currently 5-0 with a 3.70 ERA in eight starts for the Beavers this year. The five wins by Thompson lead Portland are tied for second in the Pacific Coast League. He second on the staff with 41 1/3 innings and third with 31 strikeouts.
