Cougars Return Favor to Rattlers

Kane County Cougars News Release
Geneva, IL - The Kane County Cougars rode the pitching of Jason Ray and the bat of Anthony Recker to a 2-0 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Wednesday afternoon in front of 8,674 fans at Elfstrom Stadium. The contest was completed early in the sixth inning after a long rain delay.
The Cougars had been held scoreless for the last 23 1/3 innings when Jose Pineda delivered a run-scoring single in the second off Rattlers lefty Paul Fagan to score Anthony Recker, who had doubled and gone to third on a wild pitch.
That turned out to be plenty of offense for Ray (2-1), who pitched all six innings, gave up three hits, struck out three and walked none to nab the win. The Cougars added a tally in the sixth when the rain began to pour. Jeff Baisley connected for a two-out single to extend his hitting streak to seven games and then stole second base. Recker followed with a hit to left for the 2-0 lead that became the final. Fagan (1-4) suffered the defeat for the visitors.
The Cougars (21-18) snapped their three-game losing streak and remain a half game behind Peoria for first place in the Western Division. Game three against Wisconsin (17-22) is Thursday night at 6 CDT. Trey Shields (2-5, 5.93) will face the Rattlers' Harold Williams (0-0, 1.82).
