AVON, Ohio -- The Lake Erie Crushers were limited to just five hits on Friday night at All Pro Freight Stadium, as they fell in their series opener to the River City Rascals, 5-0.

The loss for the Crushers (49-35) marked just the second time that they lost games consecutively in August, while the victory for the Rascals (53-32) was their third in a row.

Lake Erie's offensive struggles continued throughout the night, despite the fact that their leadoff hitters had a lot of success. The leadoff batter reached for the Crushers four times on the night.

River City scored single runs in the first, second, and third innings while plating a pair of runs on the fourth.

Eric Williams started the game by doubling to right-center on the second pitch of the contest. Johnny Morales's sacrifice bunt pushed Williams over to third, and he scored the game's first run moments later on Saxon Butler's sacrifice fly.

The second inning started with Zach Gordon (3-4) issuing a walk to Jon Myers. Curran Redal followed with a single to move Myers over to third, and Steve Carillo reached on a fielder's choice to score Myers.

Hector Crespo's double started the fourth inning and after he stole third, he scored on Myers's run scoring single to center. Myers came around to score later in the inning on Carillo's single to left-center.

The Rascals put one last run on the board in the top of the sixth inning. Carillo walked with one out and made his way to second on a wild pitch. Morales drove him home later in the inning on a two-out single to center to bring in the final run of the contest.

Tommy Medoza (7-3) tossed seven scoreless innings and allowed just four hits while fanning seven batters along the way. Mendoza and Chandler Jagodzinski combined to toss a five-hit shutout. Gordon took the loss after allowing five runs on nine hits over 5.2 innings of action.

Anderson Hidalgo paced the Crusher offense with a trio of singles on the night. Lake Erie's other two knocks came from Ryan Hutchison and Craig Hertler who both doubled on the night.

The Crushers will continue their three-game series with the River City Rascals at All Pro Freight Stadium on Saturday night. Righty Zac Treece (7-3, 3.18) will start for the Crushers and right-hander Tim Koons(4-4, 6.19) will start for the Rascals. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
