Late Collapse Dooms Aviators

Rockford Aviators News Release
LOVES PARK, IL - It was a pitcher's duel throughout the entire game until the Evansville Otters cranked out four runs in the top of the ninth inning to pull away from the Rockford Aviators, presented by Pearson, and win 7-2.
Both teams were scoreless until the top of the sixth inning when the Otters scored in the most unthinkable ways. Two errors and a balk allowed the Otters to push three runs across in the top half of the inning and take a 3-0 lead over the Aviators.
However, in the bottom half of the sixth inning, Edgar Corcino picked up his 100th hit of the season, a two-RBI single that scored Tanner Witt and Dusty Robinson to cut the lead down to just one run, 3-2.
Tony Butler earned the loss tonight, but pitched a great game for the Aviators. He allowed just two runs on three hits while walking two and striking out seven batters in a losing effort. His ERA dropped from 11.57 to 8.59 after tonight's game.
In the top of the ninth inning, the wheels fell off for the Aviators as the first four Otters batters reached base. Cory Urquhart and J.R. Higley each had a two-RBI single that resulted in a four-run ninth and the Otters pulled away for a 7-2 victory.
The Aviators will be back in action tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. against the Otters for the second game of the series. Gates will open at 6:05 p.m.
Tomorrow is Fan Appreciation Night at Aviators Stadium and you certainly won't want to miss out on the best night of the season. Hundreds of prizes will be given out throughout the game and the first 1,000 fans through the gate will receive a free Aviators umbrella courtesy of Pearson and B103. Our friends at Power Connection will also light up the sky with their FIREWORKS display for one final time this season immediately following the game.
