NORMAL, Ill. - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, broke a tie in the fifth inning and held off a late surge to beat the Traverse City Beach Bums 4-3 on Friday night at the Corn Crib.

The CornBelters opened the night's scoring in the second inning when Aaron Dudley and Richard Lucas started the frame with singles and moved to second and third on an error on Lucas's hit. The Beach Bums leveled the score at 2-2 in the fifth inning by loading the bases on three hits and scoring a pair on a two-out single to right by Jose Vargas.

The Belters broke the tie with a two-out seeing-eye single through the left side by Sam Judah to score Pat McKenna from second base, followed by an RBI double to the right field corner by Lucas for a 4-2 lead.

The Bums used the heart of their order to cut the deficit to 4-3 in the eighth inning with a lead-off double by Vargas and an RBI double from Jovan Rosa.
