(Marion, IL) - The Florence Freedom (38-46) scored five runs in the seventh inning on their way to a 6-5 win over the Southern Illinois Miners (50-35) Friday night.

Trailing 2-0 entering the seventh, the Freedom got a pinch-hit lead-off double from Ryan Solberg. After Chance Ross was hit by a pitch, Rolando Gomez launched his third home run of the season to give Florence a 3-2 lead. Buddy Sosnoskie was hit by a pitch and Gaby Juarbe doubled him home for the fourth run of the inning. That was it for Southern Illinois starter Rick Teasley (9-5) as Hunter Ackerman entered the game. Cole Miles bunted Juarbe to third and Zak Blair delivered a sacrifice fly to extend the Freedom lead to 5-2.

Freedom starter Peter Gehle (5-5) picked up the win, going six plus innings, giving up three runs on five hits. He started the seventh inning but allowed a single to Steve Marino. The Freedom brought in Pete Levitt but Phil Butler took Levitt deep to cut the Freedom lead to 5-4.

In the eighth the Miners loaded the bases with two outs but Ed Kohout was able to get Butler to fly out to right to end the inning.

Then the Freedom got a huge insurance run in the ninth. Sosnoskie singled to lead off the frame. He stole second and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt from Juarbe. Mile singled Sosnoskie home and the Freedom led 6-4.

The insurance run turned out to be the difference as the Miners got one run across against Kohout in the bottom of the ninth. Tyler Booth doubled to start the frame. Two outs later Niko Vasquez drew a walk. A Frank Martinez RBI single made it 6-5 in favor of the Freedom and put runners at the corners with two outs. Kohout struck out Chris Burke to end the game and secure his sixth save of the season.

The Miners got a sacrifice fly from Steve Marino in the second and a sacrifice fly from Aaron Gates in the fourth for their first two runs of the contest. Sosnoskie made the defensive play of the year when he scaled the wall in right field to reel in a Booth drive in the second inning for the final out of the frame. The amazing catch robbed Booth of what would have been a two-run home run.

Florence will look to win their fifth consecutive series on Saturday as they send Jorge Marban (4-4, 3.69 ERA) to the mound. First pitch is set for 8:05 p.m. eastern time. The game can be heard online at www.allinbroadcasting.com/Florence.html.
