Washington, PA-More than 3,000 people witnessed history at CONSOL Energy Park Friday night, they saw the first ever number in Washington Wild Things history retired, a playoff preview game, and a record-setting performance by Jonathan Kountis in the team's 50th win of the season, a 4-2 victory over the Gateway Grizzlies on Friday night.

The first inning began with no hesitation to play ball as outfielder Scott Kalamar sent a sacrifice fly ball to left field, bringing home infielder Garrett Rau. Washington left the first inning with a one run lead, 1-0. Gateway quickly answered the lead as catcher Landon Hernandez stepped up to bat and slammed a home run at the top of the second leaving the game tied, 1-1.

Washington took advantage in the bottom of the second inning as bases were occupied by outfielder Andrew Heck and infielder Jose Dore. Catcher Jim Vahalik knocked a single that traveled inside of the foul line that sent Heck home. Dore left a run on the scoreboard after an overthrow was made to first base from Rau's hit. The second inning was in Washington's favor as it ended 3-1. Kalamar secured an additional run at the bottom of the third inning through a home run that pushed the advantage to 4-1.

During the seventh inning stretch, Washington also welcomed the Pennsylvania Air National Guard as twelve individuals were sworn-in by repeating the oath of enlistment.

Infielder Josh Adams from Gateway put a dent in Washington's lead by forcing a double to the outfield marking a run from outfielder Kale Kiser and the score 4-2. Al Yevoli came in to relieve Christopher O'Hare during the top of the eighth inning and broke the record for single season appearances. Yevoli has now made 43 appearances this season. Wild Things closer Jonathan Kountis came on for the save in the ninth, allowing no runs and leaving the score 4-2 for his league-leading and record-setting 29th save this season.
