Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced on Wednesday that RHP Ricky Rodriguez will join the Round Rock Express on a major league rehab assignment this afternoon. The righty is currently on the 60-day disabled list with right biceps tendinitis.

Rodriguez is the third member of the Rangers to join the Express on a major league rehab assignment this week, joining RHP Tim Lincecum and INF Rougned Odor. All three rehabbers are scheduled to appear in Wednesday night's game against the New Orleans Baby Cakes. First pitch at Dell Diamond is set for 7:05 p.m.

Rodriguez made a rapid rise through the Rangers organization last season after missing all of 2016 with Tommy John ligament transplant surgery. He began the 2017 campaign with the Class A-Advanced Down East Wood Ducks, going 3-1 with a 1.41 ERA (5 ER/32.0 IP) in 23 relief appearances. He was promoted to Frisco on June 29, where he tossed just 13.0 innings before being promoted to the Rangers.

Rodriguez made his major league debut on August 14 against Detroit, tallying a pair of strikeouts in a scoreless inning of relief. The Venezuelan went 0-1 with a 6.23 ERA (9 ER/13.0 IP) in 16 relief appearances in his first season in the bigs. The 25-year-old was named the Texas Rangers Minor League Reliever of the Year following the season.

He began his rehab assignment with the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders on May 1, posting no record with a 3.00 ERA (1 ER/3.0 IP) in three innings out of the 'Riders bullpen.

Round Rock continues a four-game series against New Orleans on Wednesday. E-Train LHP David Hurlbut (0-2, 4.86) is scheduled to start against 'Cakes RHP Zac Gallen (3-1, 2.50). Both Lincecum and Rodriguez are expected to follow Hurlbut in relief.
