Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Oklahoma City - The Oklahoma City Dodgers suffered a third straight loss for the first time this season as Memphis defeated the Dodgers, 7-2, Wednesday afternoon at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
The Dodgers took the game's first lead in the first inning, but trailed 3-2 after three innings before the Redbirds went on to score four unanswered runs and take a 2-0 lead in the four-game series.
The Dodgers have now lost three straight home games after starting the season 15-0 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
Memphis starting pitcher Jack Flaherty racked up a career-high 13 strikeouts against the Dodgers, matching OKC's season-high for strikeouts in a game set on Sunday against Colorado Springs.
Flaherty (4-1) retired 10 straight Dodgers batters between the third and sixth innings. He held Oklahoma City to two runs and six hits total and did not issue a walk over 6.2 innings in his fourth win of the season.
Donovan Solano gave Oklahoma City (22-9) the early lead, belting his first homer of the season out to left field and onto the Budweiser Deck in the first inning.
Wilfredo Tovar led off the third inning with a homer for Memphis' first hit of the day to tie the game, 1-1. A sacrifice fly by Tyler O'Neill later in the inning gave the Redbirds the lead and a RBI single by Luke Voit pushed Memphis' advantage to 3-1.
Solano's RBI single to center field in the bottom of the third inning cut the Redbirds' lead to 3-2, as Solano brought home both of Oklahoma City's runs Wednesday and finished with his team-leading 13th multi-hit game of the season.
Adolis Garcia's homer out to left field pushed Memphis' lead to 4-2 in the fourth inning and Yairo Munoz connected on a RBI triple in the fifth inning for a 5-2 Memphis lead.
A RBI single by Tovar gave Memphis a 6-2 lead in the eighth inning and a ground-rule double by Voit brought home another run for the Redbirds in the top of the ninth for a 7-2 advantage. Voit finished the day with a game-high four hits, including three doubles.
The Dodgers have now allowed at least seven runs in back-to-back games for the first time this season.
Dodgers starting pitcher Manny Banuelos (4-1) was charged with his first loss of the season, allowing a season-high five runs and eight hits over 5.0 innings with one walk and four strikeouts.
Tomorrow the Dodgers and Memphis meet for the third time in their series at 7:05 p.m. on a $2 Thursday, featuring $2 Pepsi products, bottled water and select beer.
