Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Omaha designated hitter Cam Gallagher tallied three hits, though Iowa designated hitter Ali Solis matched Gallagher with three knocks while driving in three runs as the Cubs bullpen duo of Shae Simmons and Cory Mazzoni combined for the final two-plus scoreless frames in a 4-2 triumph over the Storm Chasers on Wednesday afternoon at Werner Park.
Both teams traded a single tally in the third, with Omaha following Iowa's single tally with a sacrifice fly to center to make it 1-1. The Cubs, however, struck right back with a two-spot in the fourth courtesy of Solis' RBI double to right and a run-scoring knock off the bat of SS Ryan Court .
The Storm Chasers would then plate their final score in the latter half of that inning thanks to Gallagher's third hit of the afternoon, an RBI single to right. Iowa would keep Omaha off the board from that point forward to hold on for their fifth straight win.
Gallagher (3-4, RBI) was the lone Storm Chasers batter to collect a multi-hit effort and has tallied hits in eight of his ten games with Omaha this year. Joining Solis (3-4, R, 2B, 2 RBI) in posting two or more knocks for Iowa was SS Ryan Court (2-5, R, RBI), 2B Chesny Young (2-5) and 1B Efren Navarro (2-5, RBI).
Cubs starter Alec Mills (6.2 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 K) earned the win with a quality start, the sixth straight time an opposing starter has yielded three runs or less in six-plus frames pitch. Simmons (0.2 IP, H, BB, K) and Mazzoni (1.2 IP, K) supported Mills over the last 2.1 innings of work to receive a hold and save, respectively. Omaha starter Trevor Oaks (5.0 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 2 K) suffered the defeat.
The Cubs and Storm Chasers continue their four-game set on Thursday evening, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. CT at Werner Park. Omaha is anticipated to send LHP Jonathan Dziedzic (0-4, 3.53) to the hill, with Iowa slated to give the ball to RHP Adbert Alzolay (2-1, 2.91).
Tickets are still available for that game and all Storm Chasers contests throughout the 2018 season, and may be purchased at www.omahastormchasers.com/tickets as well as by calling the Werner Park Ticket Office at (402) 738-5100.
