Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - The New Orleans Baby Cakes (17-15) kicked off their four-game series against the Round Rock Express (11-22) with a 10-2 victory on Tuesday night at Dell Diamond. Rehabbing Texas Rangers 2B Rougned Odor finished the game 1-4 with a single and a strikeout.
Express RHP Tyler Wagner (0-1, 4.68) suffered the loss after giving up four runs, only three of which were earned, on five hits and a walk while striking out three in 5.0 innings of work. 'Cakes LHP Adam Conley (2-4, 6.19) picked up the win by holding the Express to two runs on six hits while striking our four in 5.2 frames.
New Orleans wasted little time jumping on the scoreboard. RF Isaac Galloway opened the contest with a leadoff double before CF Magneuris Sierra followed up with a single. 2B Eric Campbell lined a single into left field in the next at-bat, driving in a pair of runs to give New Orleans an early 2-0 edge.
The upper third of the Baby Cakes lineup continued to do damage as Sierra collected a one-out walk in the third before stealing second base and racing home on an ensuing Campbell single. Two frames later, Galloway reached base on an Odor fielding error, stole second, moved to third on a Sierra groundout and scored on a Campbell sacrifice fly to extend the New Orleans lead to 5-0.
With E-Train RHP Adrian Sampson on in relief in the sixth, DH Rafael Ortega singled before C Austin Nola stepped to the plate and launched a two-run homer that extended the gap to 7-0. The 'Cakes tacked on one more run in the frame as 3B Cito Culver and Sierra teamed up for a pair of hits that scored another run.
Round Rock's only offensive output of the evening came in the bottom of the sixth as RF Scott Heineman tallied a one-out single before a booming two-run Tommy Joseph homer.
The visitors added three more runs in the eighth to put the game away for good. Round Rock RHP Connor Sadzeck issued three straight singles to Galloway, Sierra and Campbell to load the bases. After a wild pitch allowed Galloway to race home, SS J.T. Riddle singled home Sierra. An ensuing Tomas Telis groundout plated the Baby Cakes' 10th and final run of the game.
The two teams meet again on Wednesday night. Express LHP David Hurlbut (0-2, 4.86) is scheduled to start against Baby Cakes RHP Zac Gallen (3-1, 2.50). Rehabbing Texas Rangers RHP Tim Lincecum is also scheduled to throw an inning of relief. First pitch at Dell Diamond is set for 7:05 p.m.
