Bees Bats Quiet in Series Opener

May 9, 2018 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Salt Lake Bees News Release

The Sacramento River Cats rolled to a 7-1 win over the Salt Lake Bees on Tuesday night in the first of a four game series.

Sacramento got on the board in the third inning on a two run homer by Austin Slater and an RBI double by Ryder Jones. The Bees got on the board in the fourth on a leadoff home run by Michael Hermosillo, his sixth of the season, but the River Cats broke the game open with four runs in the bottom of the fourth, capped off by a two run blast by Chris Shaw. Salt Lake loaded the bases in the ninth, but Francisco Arcia grounded out to end the game.

Angels reliever Keynan Middleton started the game on an injury rehab assignment. He walked the first two batters he faced before getting a pop up and two strikeouts to get out of the inning. Ivan Pineyro (0-3) took the loss, as he allowed all seven runs on nine hits in four innings with three strikeouts and two walks. Eduardo Paredes worked a 1-2-3 sixth inning and Jake Jewell tossed two scoreless innings. Arcia led the Bees with two hits, while Hermosillo added the home run and was hit by a pitch for the PCL leading ninth time. Salt Lake has now dropped back to back games for the first time since they lost three straight games to Albuquerque in the opening series of the season.
