San Antonio Rampage News Release

CEDAR PARK - The San Antonio Rampage held on for a 4-3 win over the Texas Stars in front of 6,216 at the Cedar Park Center on Saturday night. Mikko Rantanen led all scorers with two goals and two assists to earn the First Star of the Game, and Joey Hishon added a goal and two assists. Calvin Pickard made 45 saves on 48 shots, the most shots he's faced in a game this season, to earn the Third Star of the game.

After a scoreless first period, the Stars struck first in the second. A shot by Stephen Johns rebounded off the boards and landed on the stick of Gemel Smith, who was there to bury the rebound.

Mikko Rantanen answered for San Antonio just 37 seconds later and then gave the Rampage their first lead of the night at the 7:27 mark. Joey Hishon picked up his first goal of the season late in the frame, redirecting a Chris Bigras blast from the point on the power play to give the Silver and Black their third unanswered tally and a 3-1 advantage heading into the second intermission.

Trevor Cheek scored early in the third stanza to give the Rampage a 4-1 lead, picking up his first goal of the season since being recalled from the Fort Wayne Komets on Friday. The Stars got two late goals from Jason Dickinson and one on the power play from Justin Dowling to come within one, but the Rampage held on for the 4-3 win.

The Silver and Black finished 1-for-4 on the power play and held the Stars to one goal on five opportunities with the man advantage.

Key Stat

Mikko Rantanen's four points finishes just one point shy of a franchise record for points in a game, which has been achieved three times in franchise history. The last player to tally five points in a game was Rocco Grimaldi against the Texas Stars on Dec. 26, 2015.

Lineup Notes

The Rampage lines and defensive pairs remained unchanged from Friday night's game against the Chicago Wolves. Calvin Pickard made his ninth straight start in net, which marks the second-longest string of consecutive starts in his career. He started 13 straight games from Mar. 25-Apr. 18 with the Lake Erie Monsters last season.

Up Next

The Rampage wrap up their first 3-in-3 of the season with a 4 p.m. contest against the Wolves. It's the first Sunday Funday of the season at the AT&T Center. Individual and season tickets are available and can be purchased by calling a Rampage representative at 210-444-5554 or online at sarampage.com.
