Heat Ride Momentum in Third But Fall Short

Stockton Heat News Release

Stockton, Calif. - The Stockton Heat put forth a furious effort in the third period, including their lone goal coming on the power play from Markus Granlund, but could not complete the comeback, as they fall to the Bakersfield Condors 2-1 Friday night in Stockton. The Heat were raising money for charity during their Hot Pink 1 promotion all night long but the team on the ice couldn't quite capture the win despite winning the battle in shots 32 to Bakersfield's 29. Goaltender Jon Gillies left the game after the first period with an apparent lower-body injury, so Kent Simpson came in cold and saw his first action of the season for the Heat, stopping 18 of the 20 shots he faced. However, a tough second period that saw Bakersfield net two goals was too large of a deficit for the Heat to recover from tonight and they see their winless streak go to four games. The Heat will look to reel in their cold streak Saturday night when they take on the Ontario Reign in the second and final game of the Hot Pink 1 weekend.
